Insulation

Last week during a full day meeting I had booked with my supervisor, my contractor called me and asked why the power company had not shown up as planned.  When I called the power company I apparently had spoken to someone that was brand new. She had not booked the appointment properly as we needed a disconnect/reconnect for the electrician but nobody had come.  When I called and asked what the issue was the power company realized the mistake.  I received multiple apologies and was then told that the appointment could not be booked until today.  Frustration!!

On the positive side the insulation is almost all in.

It was a little offputting as to how quite it is now.  William was standing in the laundry room and I was in the kitchen and I had a hard time hearing him since all the sound was soaked up by the insulation.

William called our contractor and the electric is all done.  The bedroom window should be finished this week.  After the inspector checks on everything up goes the drywall.  EXCELLENT!

Passing Inspection and a New Window

Yesterday I spent the majority of the day at the church.  I helped out where I could, made arrangements with the power company and met up with the inspector.  Happy dance everyone!  The inspector only found minor changes he wanted.  The big stuff he could not find anything wrong.  I think he was impressed with the quality of the work. (Cause my guys are SO GOOD at what they do!!).  The grapevine had said that usually in the first inspection he finds a long list of things needing to be changed.  Great news!!  We stay on schedule!!  One of the minor things he wanted changed was holes cut and taped in the vapor barrier on the walls.  Quick fix that I was able to do instead of taking time away from other more important things.

The big job for yesterday was putting in the kitchen window.  It was really cool to watch the process from beginning to end.  The guys are amazing!  They needed to jackhammer the wall to make it big enough for the frame and window.

As that was happening they also dug out the window well.

They built the frame, put in the window, then placed it into the hole they had cut out.  It looks amazing!

The next window to put in is the bedroom window.

You can see where the old window was and the framing for the new window.  To have it to code it needs to be big enough for us to crawl out in case of a fire.  I understand this but look at the difference.  The window is going to be huge!  Lots of natural light and a place for my plants.

Today was going to be to tackle this window, but it is currently pouring rain so I'm not sure if the guys will be able to get this done.  Thursday the electrician finishes up.  The power company comes out to turn off then on the power while everything electrical is finished.  The insulation and vapor barrier will be put up, then another visit from the inspector.  Once that is done and good to go, drywall will be put up, then tiling can begin in the bathroom.  Then finally there will be stuff I feel I can really help with!

Decisions Decisions

This past week has been full of shopping and decision making.  It was a bit of an eye opener as to how many choices there are on almost EVERYTHING we were shopping for.  Taps, shower heads, even shower doors... just too many choices!  How do you make a decision when the aisles look like this?!

After a ton of shopping in store and online, we have almost everything we need for the bathroom.

Speaking of the bathroom, it is really starting to look like a bathroom!  The framing for the bathtub is done and so is the bench in the shower.

Framing for closet/shelves for towels and such next to the bathtub.

The venting has been put in for the dryer as well.

I'm really looking forward to using these bad boys! (You know you are a grown-up when willing to admit things such as this ;)

This coming week the town inspector is coming to check on things (fingers crossed that he will be happy.  We all remember the frustrations the last time we had a discussion with him).  The electrician should be finishing up this week also.  If everything is a go insulation and drywall are the next step.

Floors, Plumbing and Electrical

This afternoon William and I met my parents to check out how things are going at the church.

Pipes have been put into the floor and the floor has been cemented.  This picture is from the laundry room.

This is looking into the bathroom.

Walk-in shower.

Where the corner tub will go.  Framing has been done on the ceiling for aesthetics.

Where the vanity will go.

Electrical and pipes in the walls looking from the bathroom into the kitchen.

Pipes and electrical in the kitchen.

Here is the view from next to the laundry room.  Pot lights are in!

And here is the view as you enter the basement.

The water meter needed to be moved so now we have this little bench to hide the meter.  A place to drop our keys and such.

When the floor was jackhammered the rubble was taken and used to level out the floor in the cold storage room.  It was also built up and shelves/levels are going to be built.

The bathtub is purchased and waiting to be put in.  The next purchases need to be the vanity and shower doors, and a toilet.  Since we are going to have a bench in the shower, we are trying to decide if we need a door that you pull open or a sliding door.  Any thoughts?

Another church in the family maybe?!

I have roughly 1.5 weeks until I am done with my semester.  All done marking first year papers and exams, as well as having all my own assignments handed in.  My first year of my masters program under my belt.  I should be hard at work writing a paper, but found myself daydreaming of what plans I have for our church.  Unfortunately I will not have updated pictures until the weekend.  I then realized that something that seems quite ordinary in my family (both sides are go big or go home kinds of people) may be interesting to others.

The other week my husbands side of the family all got together to go check out a church for sale in the town just before Indian Head.  All being busy people we don't get together as much as we would like.... except for real estate.  We ALL seem to find a way to organize our schedules if someone is interested in property.  Especially another church!!

Here are some pictures of the basement, some stained glass, and the main area.

It is my brother-in-law and his girlfriend who are interested in the property.  The funny thing is this would be their first home.  GO BIG!!  William and I are jealous of the number of pews.  We have already told them we are claiming some if they do decide to make an offer.

Anyway, now that I have successfully procrastinated I am off to finish my paper.
